Greetings Seniors, Parents and Guardians!
This letter is to help seniors and their families organize upcoming important dates and deadlines. These dates are a crucial part of planning for your next step whether it’s applying to college, finding scholarships, joining the military, or entering the workforce. Seniors get announcements and other valuable information including forms, scholarship opportunities, and other resources through their google classroom. The code for the classroom is tnntkn2. Please check in with your student to make sure they are accessing the google classroom.
On September 25, during extended advisory, School Counselors will meet with the Senior class to go over post-secondary planning. After this date, students can start to schedule their individual Senior meetings by contacting Mrs. Lothrop at [email protected] or coming into student services. Parents are always welcomed to attend their Senior Meetings (senior meetings are during the school day). Also on that date is Financial Aid and Scholarship Night at 6pm in the Performing Arts Center.
Students who are applying to college can create an account on commonapp.org. We would suggest starting the application now. Please also have students keep track of their login information for the Common App and College Board accounts. This information is critical in order for counselors to help answer questions during senior meetings, as we do not have access to your account details/passwords.
Students who are planning to enter the military should contact a recruiter for the branch or branches they are interested in. Here is the most up to date list we have for area recruiters by branch. Hampden Academy plans on hosting a military day this winter.
Students who are planning to go directly to the workforce are encouraged to discuss training (on the job or professional school) with their counselor during their senior meeting. Hampden Academy will also host a Career Fair on March 7 from 1 to 3pm
We will be hosting several opportunities for seniors to get help with their post secondary planning. These activities include:
- On the spot admissions sessions with representatives from Husson, University of Maine, Eastern Maine Community College, Maine Maritime Academy (Dates and times will be posted in the Senior Google Classroom as well as daily announcements)
- ASVAB test - for career exploration or military entrance (sign up in student services)
- Military Day - recruiters from various branches will come and set up to talk with students about the opportunities they can provide (Winter, 2024)
- College Essay Writing Help Session Help, TBD
